In August 2024, IKEA will launch a new look for the classic design of the Nytillverkad series

The Nytillverkad collection pays homage to beloved classic designs from the past, presenting them in modern versions for a new generation. However, some classic designs have never disappeared over the years, such as the POÄNG armchair and KLIPPAN sofa, designed by Noboru Nakamura more than 40 years ago, both of which embody timeless appeal. Now, both designs feature a low back and a bold look that looks more striking than ever!

The playful KLIPPAN sofa retains its original look from the 1984 IKEA catalogue, while the POÄNG armchair features a new low-back design. The two new pieces in the Nytillverkad collection are also designed by Japanese designer Noboru Nakamura, combining eye-catching colors, straight lines and simple style to take you back to the 1980s.

The new POÄNG low-back armchair does away with the sleepy headrest, making it easier to chat, discuss or collaborate with others, and is available with a base frame and seat cushions in red, birch/beige and black.

Give your KLIPPAN sofa a brand new look with these easy-to-carry KLIPPAN sofa covers in bright red, blue and yellow. The sofa set also comes with a matching fabric bag, making it convenient to carry or as a housewarming gift.

Japanese designer Noboru Nakamura (1938-2023) worked at IKEA for three years in the late 1970s, designing many products during his time there, including the popular POEM/POÄNG armchair and KLIPPAN sofa, which remained popular after his departure. Read more about the 2022 interview now.
