July 2020 DZOFilm launches the Pictor S35 series DOZFilm Pictor Zoom Super 35mm format 20-55mm T*2.8 and 50-125mm T*2.8 lenses, a set of S35 variable focus cine lenses with a full range of focal lengths, officially debuted
Although Full Frame is now the mainstream, S35 is still a good choice. You can also use the MARLIN 1.6X EXPANDER monitor series 1.6x adapter ring launched by DZOFilm to use it on FF cameras.
“In Latin, Pictor means picture frame. A picture frame is an important tool that supports artists in realizing their vision. Just like an easel to a painter, DZOFILM hopes that Pictor Zoom is more than just a “frame”, but a tool that will help cinematographers convey their future stories.”
DZOFILM says that the Pictor Zooms floating structure design produces a very low breathing effect that is negligible during focusing. The lenses provide sharp details, high contrast and neutral colors with rounded and soft images. Due to the nature of the lens, it can be harder to focus at times, but if you like vintage lenses, you’ll love the Pictor Zoom.
According to the information, these two movie zoom lenses weigh only about 1.5 kilograms, embarking on the road of lightweight movie zoom lenses. They use EF and PL mounts that can be adapted to most camera mounts. Their compact design and wide range of mounts greatly increase their usability.
In April 2022, DZOFilm launched a 14-30mm wide-angle zoom lens for the DZO Film S35 series, enhancing the completeness of this series of lenses and making it suitable for a wider range of shooting scenes.
The new lens inherits the soft imaging style of all lenses in the series. The entire series has the same imaging clarity, circular light spot, soft and deep defocus effect, and natural and bright image colors, ensuring the integrity of the picture. This 14-30mm lens weighs about 1.8 kg. Its 270° focusing range inherits the delicate focusing feel of the original two lenses. Parfocal design is also an important difference between zoom movie lenses and traditional camera lenses.
In February 2023, DZOFilm released a 12-25mm ultra-wide-angle zoom lens for the Dream Painter S35 series, bringing a new perspective effect, enhancing depth of field and image tension. The minimum focusing distance is only 40cm, which is 20cm closer than the 60cm of the 14-30mm. It meets the needs of close-up shooting in limited spaces, brings the audience closer to the characters and scenes, and enhances the sense of participation and immersion.

After multiple replenishments, the standard focal lengths of the S35 series lenses are now complete. If DZOFilm takes any action next, they will probably produce long-focus zoom lenses for the S35 series. Look forward to the next release.
